Police Scotland forced to hand over £300k to former Rangers administrator after bungled arrest

Police Scotland has been forced to hand over £300,000 to a former Rangers administrator.

David Whitehouse received the cash along with £10.5million from the Crown Office over a bungled arrest and prosecution.

Chief Constable Iain Livingstone admitted earlier this month the accountant and his former Duff & Phelps colleague Paul Clark had been given £75,000 each from police along with legal costs.

Sources have now confirmed the expenses for Whitehouse alone add another £225,000 to his payout from the force.

Clark has also received £10.5million from the Crown Office.

The total bill for the Rangers scandal is likely to top £100million after attempts were made to prosecute businessmen involved in the club’s collapse.

Conservative MSP Murdo Fraser has called the debacle “unprecedented in Scottish legal history”.

Ex-Rangers administrator David Grier is also seeking millions in compensation over his wrongful arrest.
