Police say 'spiking by injection' incidents at Scots venues are not connected

Police investigating a spate of alleged 'spiking by injection' incidents at venues across Scotland say they are unlikely to be connected.

A statement issued by the force confirms that officers are probing several claims of women being jabbed with needles and suffering effects including impaired movement, slurred speech and memory blackouts.

However, officers say that the incidents being investigated "do not appear" to be connected to one another.

The Record has recently reported on alleged cases of spiking at venues including The Liquid Room in Edinburgh, Tingle in Stirling, Nice N Sleazy in Glasgow and Captain's Cabin in Dundee.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "We are aware of posts circulating on social media about spiking incidents involving injections in Scotland.

"Officers are carrying out enquiries, and a small number of reports from the Edinburgh, Dundee and Glasgow areas are being investigated.

"These do not appear to be linked.

"We take all reports seriously and we would encourage anyone who believes they have been a victim of spiking in any form to contact Police via 101.”

In Dundee, the Captain's Cabin bar apologised after it was accused of "victim blaming" by angry punters.

In a post shared thousands of times on social media, one woman claimed she had a "jag mark" on her arm the day after she visited the venue, and had "blacked out" the night before.

Captain's Cabin has since vowed to carry out more thorough searches of guests on entry and bulk up its security.

However, other venues are yet to make similar commitments. In response, women across the country have banded together under the "Girls' Night In" banner to plan a one-day boycott of clubs, calling on them to do more to protect pubgoers.
