Police say no 'third party involvement' in death of woman found on the banks of the River Tyne

Police now believe there was no third party involvement after the body of a woman was found on the Quayside.

Emergency services were called to the scene on Sunday morning after a member of the public reported seeing a body on the river bank near to Newcastle Crown Court.

ChronicleLive understands that the discovery was made by a trader who was setting up for the Quayside Market.

Police, paramedics and fire crews attended and found the body of a woman shortly before 8am.

Officers launched an investigation to determine the circumstances surrounding her death and to identify her.

On Monday, it was confirmed that police do not believe there was any suspicious circumstances and they have notified her next of kin.

A spokesperson for Northumbria Police said: "We can now confirm we have identified the body and her next of kin have been informed.

"We do not believe there has been any third party involvement and our thoughts are with her family at this time.”
