Police say bomb squad in Motherwell was 'no risk to the wider public'

Police in Motherwell carried out a controlled explosion last night after the discovery of a potential explosive.

A report was made to the police around 3.10pm in the Dollar Park area of Muirhouse, where police attended alongside the explosive ordnance disposal (EOD) team.

A Police Scotland spokeswoman told Lanarkshire Live : “Around 3.10 pm on Wednesday, September 1, we received a report of a potential ordnance found in the Dollar Park area of Muirhouse.

“A cordon was put in place by officers and the Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team attended and the potential ordnance was securely moved to a location where a controlled explosion could be carried out in the Ravenscraig area.

“There was no risk to the wider public.”

One Twitter user Tweeted us about the incident last night.

He said: “Heavy Police Presence and bomb Squad in #motherwell anybody know why?”
