Police say anti-social behaviour in Co Down could have resulted in "loss of life"

Drivers going to work this morning were attacked with stones.

Police say they received a report this morning, just after 6.50am, that two young males were throwing large stones at passing vehicles in the Newcastle Road area of Seaforde.

Inspector Kelly Gibson said: " Officers attended, but there was no sign of the pair.

"This was a reckless act. And, while the culprits probably considered it amusing, the consequences could have been very different. This could all too easily have resulted in injury or even loss of life.

"I am appealing, in the first instance, to those responsible to think about the potential impact of such actions.

"I am also asking anyone who witnessed this incident, or who may have captured dash cam footage, to contact us on 101 quoting reference number 252 of 26/05/20."

UUP Councillor Alan Lewis said: "This is just unbelievable, such reckless foolish behaviour, I am honestly astonished at the level of utter stupidity displayed by these two individuals. We are honestly lucky that nobody was killed or seriously injured.

"You’d have to be pretty void of conscience or intelligence to be standing at the side of a road at 6.45am hurling large rocks at cars.

"I’d encourage anyone who was hit or witnessed the incident to contact police."
