Police rushed to report of man with knife in centre of Carmarthen and found two people injured

Police were called to a report of a man in possession of a knife in the centre of Carmarthen.

Dyfed-Powys Police rushed to Lammas Street, Carmarthen, at around 10pm on Thursday, November 25, after being alerted that someone had a weapon.

It said two men had suffered cuts to their hands during the incident, but they did not need hospital treatment. You can read more stories about Carmarthen here.

A 24-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of affray and possession of a bladed article in connection with the incident.

Dyed-Powys Police said the 24-year-old remained in police custody at this time.

According to national statistics, in the year ending March, 2021, there were around 41,000 (selected) offences involving a knife or sharp instrument in England and Wales.

The BBC reports that from April, 2010, to March, 2011, Welsh police forces registered 700 offences involving knives or sharp instruments, rising to 1,461 in 2020-21.

It is illegal to carry a knife even if it's for your own protection. Police, and teachers at school, can search anyone suspected of carrying a knife. Those found carrying one could receive a criminal record or even a prison sentence.
