Police rush to scene of road crash on M74 as tailbacks cause delays for drivers

Police have rushed to the scene of a road accident in Dumfries and Galloway with large traffic queues causing delays.

Around 2.35pm a road traffic accident occurred northbound on the M74/ A74 affecting J15 and J16.

Traffic Scotland have issued a warning to drivers of delays in the northbound direction and to take alternative routes where possible.

A second car accident had also occurred in the road southbound but has been moved to the hard shoulder to allow traffic to pass.

There is not yet detail of any injuries from the accident.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “We were called around 2.10pm on Friday, 26 March, to a report of a road crash involving several vehicles on the M74 near junction 16 at Johnstonebridge. Emergency services are in attendance and the road is currently closed.”
