Police rush to scene as man attacked at primary school

Police have rushed to reports of a male assaulted at a primary school in Wigan.

Officers were called at around 5.15pm this evening to St George's Primary School in Darlington Street in Tyldesley.

Police and paramedics are still at the scene and remain with the injured person.

Police are asking for anyone with information to come forward as it may aid their ongoing investigation into the incident.

Greater Manchester Police Force Duty Inspector Bob Cantrell said: "We are responding to a report of a male assaulted.

"We still do not know the full extent of the injuries. It is very early days.

"It is an ongoing investigation so if anyone has got any information that can help us we would like them to come forward.

"It is possible that there was a weapon involved but we are not sure at this stage.

"Paramedics are still with the injured party and we are still trying to establish the circumstances and how the injuries have been sustained.

"Potentially we may need to look at preserving the scene but that is a decision that will be made by officers on the ground."

Information can be reported to the police on 0161 856 3726 or contact the independent charity Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
