Police rush to reports of stabbing as air ambulance scrambled to town centre car park

Police have been called to reports of a stabbing and an air ambulance was scrambled to a car park in Bolton.

Police say they were called to reports of a stabbing a property in Spring Gardens in Atherton at around 5.15pm.

A man was found with minor injuries at the scene.

Police officers remain at the scene in Atherton, though it has not yet been confirmed which street the incident took place in.

A 21-year-old male has been taken to Manchester Royal Infirmary, it is not believed his condition is serious, say police.

Greater Manchester Police's force duty inspector Dale Sexton told the M.E.N.: "Police are currently in attendance dealing with an incident at an address in Atherton.

"The call came through as a stabbing but the circumstances at the moment are unclear.

"A male has sustained minor injuries.

"Officers are still at the scene."

Atherton residents watched as the air ambulance landed in the middle of the town centre car park in Mealhouse Lane.

Resident Billie Raynor said: "I just heard the helicopter circling and popped my head out of the front door when the ambulance crew ran across the main road.

"Lots of police cars came."
