Police rush to Essex woodland after body of teenage girl found

The body of a teenage girl has been found in woodland in Essex.

Essex Police officers made the tragic discovery shortly after 7.25am on Friday in West Mersea, Essex.

Floral tributes have been left at the scene in memory of the teenage girl, Essex Live reports.

The girl's age has not yet been released by police.

The body was found in woodland just off of Upland Road, known to locals as Reymead Wood and West Mersea Park.

Police are not treating the teenager's death as suspicious and a file will now be prepared for the coroner, a spokesperson for Essex Police said.

No other details have been released in connection with the tragic death.

Following the news, several people took to social media to pay tributes to the girl.

One said: "So sad. RIP young lady. Condolences to your family and friends."

Another said: "Such a waste of a young life. RIP little one."

The Reymead Wood is found within a residential area in the north of West Mersea - close to the West Mersea Recycling Centre.

The area where the body was found is a short walk from a petrol station, parade of shops and a number of restaurants.
