Police rush to Edinburgh woodland as 'unexplained' body found in the undergrowth

The body of a man has been recovered near Little France, police have confirmed.

Officers in Edinburgh were called to the scene at around 1pm yesterday on Old Dalkeith Road near the Royal Infirmary.

Cordons and a heavy police presence were reported at the site, where the body of a man was found in a wooded area near the side of the road.

The body has yet to be identified, as police confirmed that the death is being treated as 'unexplained'.

Today the City of Edinburgh Council confirmed the Craigmillar Recycling centre on Old Dalkeith Road will be closed due to the ongoing incident.

The centre will be closed to the public until Tuesday, with a review to take place on Monday afternoon.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said:

“Around 1pm on Saturday, 22 August, the body of a man was found in a wooded area near Old Dalkeith Road, Edinburgh.

"The death is being treated as unexplained and enquiries are ongoing into the circumstances.”
