Police robbery suspect was 'found in 40 seconds' after hiding behind a bus stop

Quick-thinking cops arrested a robbery suspect in just 40 seconds.

Bobbies on the beat in Trafford have been roundly praised by the public for their fast actions.

The suspect, an adult man, is currently in custody.

He was found hiding behind a bus stop - and collared.

Officers on the Trafford North division of Greater Manchester Police sprang into action after a 999 call reporting a robbery on Milton Road in Trafford, near Gorse Hill Park down the road from the Emirates Old Trafford cricket ground.

The call came in at 2.37.

Police said that within 40 seconds of the report being communicated by radio to officers on the ground, the suspect was spotted.

The force said he was hiding behind a bus shelter on Chester Road nearby.

He was subsequently arrested.

"Brilliant guys - well done," said one poster on Facebook.

"Superb work, well done," said another.

The arrest was made by the Trafford West area police team, according to the division's Facebook page.

No further details about the robbery or whether anyone was injured have been revealed, but police did say property was 'recovered' after the arrest.

The suspect's age also hasn't been confirmed.

In a Facebook post, GMP Trafford North said enquiries were continuing.

The division posted: "Robbery arrest.

"At around 14.37 today a report of robbery was received by police which occurred on Milton Road, Trafford.

"Within 40 seconds of the report being communicated to officers by radio, officers from the Trafford West area team sighted the offender hiding behind a bus shelter on Chester Road.

"The offender, an adult male, was arrested and property recovered.

"He has been conveyed to custody awaiting interview. Enquiries ongoing."
