Police road block on M62 after car flips causing six miles of queues

The M62 has queues of up to six miles long after a car crashed into the central reservation and overturned.

There is currently one of three lanes closed between Junction 7 Rainhill and Junction 6 Widnes.

Police shut the westbound carriageway near Rainhill Stoops after a car hit the central reservation and overturned at around 11am.

Queues are now stretching back six miles to junction 8 at Burtonwood.

On Twitter, Highways England confirmed traffic had been temporarily stopped due to the collision and traffic officers are currently at the scene.

Highways England said: "Please be aware there are long delays on the #M62 westbound J7 #Widness to J6 #TarbockIsland #LiverpoolAirport due to the ongoing collision.

"There is approx. 6 miles of congestion which is likely to add around 30 mins onto usual journey times.

"Traffic has been released from rolling road block and lane one is now closed while traffic officers work to clear the incident."

On the motorway cameras website it states that "normal traffic conditions are expected between 17:45 and 18:00 on 2 July 2020.."

Officers are currently at the scene to clear the incident.

The injuries of those involved are not yet known. The ECHO has contacted NWAS for more information.
