Police reveal the shocking excuses motorists gave after they were caught driving with no insurance, tax or a licence

Police have revealed some of the shocking excuses drivers gave after being caught on the roads with no insurance, tax or a valid licence.

One driver said insurance was too expensive because they had previously been banned for drink driving.

Another motorist said they were only driving because it was a 'family emergency'.

And another said they were just popping to the shops with their baby.

A Ford Focus, a Vauxhall Corsa and a Mazda were seized during the operation (GMP Chorlton and Didsbury)

"Absolutely none of these 'excuses' are valid for driving a car on the roads with no licence, insurance or tax," officers said on the GMP Chorlton and Didsbury Facebook page.

"If they crashed into your car, home or a person they have no valid insurance, never mind licence or training to drive a car safely."

Officers said that three vehicles, a Ford Focus, a Vauxhall Corsa and a Mazda were seized during the operation.

The post read: "Can you match the excuse to the car seized by #XM today?

"All were seized for no insurance along with other offences.

One driver said they were just nipping to the shops with their baby (GMP Chorlton and Didsbury)

"A) I've been banned twice already for drink driving. I can't afford insurance or tax and no one will insure me.

"B) I don't have a licence or insurance. It's the first time I've driven it, it's a family emergency. Checks confirmed this to be false, he was caught driving uninsured 1 year previous and received points.

"C) Just off to the shops with my Baby in the back!

"All were seized and drivers reported for no insurance, no tax, no licence."
