Police reveal new service providing crime updates for these areas in Bolton

Residents in Bolton will have a new place to turn for important crime updates and advice - and it will be run by police officers themselves.

The police are setting up a brand new Facebook page to share their activities in the Bolton West area.

The Facebook page, expected to launch on March 30. It is hoped to get communities talking and even provide responses to local crime concerns.

People in Horwich, Westhoughton and the 'Chorley Roads' area, including Lostock, Halliwell, Smithills and Johnson Fold, will soon be able to follow the new page, ask questions and get updates from their neighbourhood police team.

Residents have long been asking for the social media service. Similar pages, including Greater Manchester Police Bolton North, Bolton South and Bolton Central, have been up and running for nearly a decade.

The dedicated GMP Bolton West page is a response to those requests, says 'Chorley Roads' Sergeant Phil Brown.

Sergeant Brown told the Manchester Evening News: "We will be launching a new social media account for GMP Bolton West. This account will specifically be aimed at Westhoughton, Horwich and the ‘Chorley Roads’ area.

The GMP Bolton West service was teased on other police Facebook pages (Greater Manchester Police)

"It will also align the social media accounts to the specific neighbourhood teams and also the partner agencies we work with.

"This will run alongside some new graphics on the pages and more targeted approach to GMP Bolton North and GMP Bolton South."

"The idea is to provide better engagement to the communities we serve and provide updates and responses about more localised issues.

"It’s also as a response to requests from members of the public to extend our social media reach, particularly in Horwich."
