Police resume search for man in River Clyde

Police have resumed their search for a man who fell into the River Clyde last night.

Emergency services raced to Broomielaw on Thursday evening after reports of a person in the water.

Police have issued a description of the man and are appealing to witnesses.

A Police Scotland statement released this lunchtime (Friday) reads: "Around 7.20 pm last night, Thursday, 6 June 2019, a report was received of the man described as being white, aged between 25 and 30 years, slim build and with short hair having fallen into the river. Emergency services attended and despite an extensive search, involving Police Scotland, HM Coastguard and the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service , the man has not been found.

"Police Scotland officers are continuing to search for the man today and are appealing to anyone who was in the area at the time and who witnessed to incident."

Sergeant Graeme Burn commented: "We know there were a number of people on a pontoon near the bridge who went to help and I would urge them to get in touch. We are still trying to establish the identity man who has gone into the river and anyone who has information which could assist our enquiries should contact Police Scotland.

"If you were driving past the location at the time and captured the incident on a dashcam, please contact us."

Anyone with information is asked to call officers at Baird Street Police Station via 101 - quoting incident number 3625 of Thursday 6 June 2019.
