Concern over video appearing to show speeding motorbikes in Mansfield Road

Police have spoken out after concerns were raised on social media about a video appearing to show motorbikes speeding along Mansfield Road.

Officers from Nottinghamshire Police are urging anyone who has seen the footage - which was posted on Twitter on July 29 - to contact them if they recognise anyone shown on the video.

The video shows the group travelling through a 40 mile per hour zone along Mansfield Road from the direction of Sherwood, heading into the city.

Inspector James Walker for that area said: "The force takes speeding vehicles, including motorbikes very seriously.

"Nottinghamshire Police take part on a number of operations across the county to tackle speeding motorist.

"Excessive and inappropriate speed is the cause of many road traffic collisions throughout the county and is consistently identified as a priority for police action by local communities.

"Our officers take a robust approach to speeding drivers 365 days a year and are continually stepping up efforts to catch irresponsible drivers who choose to ignore speed limits, use mobile phones, do not wear seatbelts and drive while under the influence of drink and drugs.

"One of the ways we do this by setting up random static speed checks up and down the county. We also have officers trained to use hand-held laser devices to detect speeding vehicles and interact with the driver or rider and promote safety messages.

"Local neighbourhood teams can proactively deploy these resources in response to the concerns of local communities.

"Fixed location cameras are erected by the Nottinghamshire Safety Camera Partnership in areas where excessive speed has killed or seriously injured people in the past.

"We have been made aware of the footage. If you recognise anyone in the film please call 101.
