Police respond to reports of man making threats with a firearm in Ancoats

A man who made threats and claimed to have a firearm is being investigated by the police.

The incident unfolded on Warwick Street in Ancoats at around 2pm on Friday.

The man claimed to have a firearm and was making threats, police said.

No-one was injured but police are investigating the incident.

Three police vehicles and armed officers were seen at the junction of Great Ancoats Street and Redhill Street.

One witness, who asked not to be named, said: "There were three police cars on Great Ancoats Street.

"There didn't seem to be any panic but I noticed the police were armed."

A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Police said: "Shortly before 2pm officers were called to Warwick Street to reports of a man making threats and claiming to have a firearm.

"There are currently no reports of injuries and enquiries are ongoing."

Anyone with information should call police on 101, or the independent charity Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
