An early morning fight involving a knife near North Shields Metro station is being investigated by police.
Police officers received a report from a witness who said they saw a fight in the street on Lovaine Place in North Shields at around 7.45am on Sunday.
The witness said one of those involved in the fight had a knife.
When officers arrived at the scene, those involved in the fight had fled the area.
Police dogs were deployed near to North Shields Metro Station to find the knife, however officers were unable to locate it.
A man matching the description of one of the people involved was stopped and searched by police, however, he did not have a knife on him.
An investigation is ongoing.
A Northumbria Police spokesperson said: “At about 7.45am on Sunday police received a third party report of a fight in the street on Lovaine Place in North Shields.
"A witness to the altercation reported that one of those involved in the fight was in possession of a knife. Officers attended the scene but those involved had all fled the area.
"A man matching the description of one of those involved in the fight was stopped and searched near the scene but was not in possession of a knife.
"Dog units were deployed near to North Shields Metro Station but they were unable to locate the weapon.
"Inquiries into the incident are ongoing and anyone with information can contact police online at the Northumbria Police website, or by calling 101, and quoting log 211 25/04/21.”
