Police respond to reports of gunshots being fired at a house in Salford

Police are responding to reports of gunshots being fired at a house in Salford.

It is believed officers were called to Murray Street in Higher Broughton shortly after 9.30pm on Wednesday evening.

Local residents described hearing the sound of gunshots.

A police cordon is currently in place along the entire stretch of the road, with forensic teams and officers seen in the area.

GMP have not confirmed if anyone has been injured during the incident.

One local resident told the Manchester Evening News : "I was trying to put my baby to bed when I heard a bang, and then a couple of seconds after another one.

"The police got here very quickly. There are some people in white overalls walking around.

"They have blocked off the entire road.

"It is a very quiet area usually.

"I know there are lot of shootings happening Salford at the moment but I'm surprised it's happened here.

"It's quite scary really because it's a family friendly area and I have children who often play out on the street."

Pictures from the scene show a stretch of police tape being guarded by an officer.

Residents have reported seeing "police activity" in the area.

A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Police confirmed police were called to reports that gunshots had been fired at a property.
