Police respond to incident in Bristol city centre as cordon blocks off access to Castle Park

Police officers rushed to Bristol city centre today (November 5) following a report of a fight.

They responded to a 999 call made just before 4.30pm by someone claiming they saw young people fighting in Castle Park.

Officers later found out a man was being treated for knife wounds in Tower Hill, next to the park. He has since been taken to hospital, according to a spokesperson for Avon and Somerset Constabulary.

A woman walking through the park at around 5pm told Bristol Live that police tape had been set up around St Peter's Church, with pedestrians being warned to stay away.

She said: "They've cordoned off a massive area of it. There's lots of police making sure everyone goes round the park."

The woman estimated that at least 15 officers were present, along with around five vehicles.

A police spokesperson said: "If you have information which could help the police investigation call 101 reference 5219256341.

"Alternatively ring the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111. They never ask your name or trace your call."
