Police rescue mum in labour from gridlocked M1 traffic

A brave mum who went into labour whilst stuck in standstill traffic on the M1 was escorted safely to hospital by a passing police patrol.

The Nottinghamshire British Transport Police car was flagged down by a panicked dad-to-be who explained that his "other half" had gone into labour and they were stuck in gridlock.

All four lanes of the M1 motorway were closed following an earlier incident on Friday evening.

The quick-thinking cops flashed emergency sirens, cut through heavy traffic and delivered the mum in labour and anxious dad safely to the local hospital.

BTP Nottinghamshire tweeted at 10.38pm: "Whilst stuck in stand still traffic on the #M1, with all 4 lanes closed, a soon to be father flagged down one of our officers in a marked vehicle stating his other half had gone into labour!"

"Our officer came to the rescue and gave them a police escort to the nearest hospital."
