Police remove man from Asda in South Shields after queue jumping

A man was detained and taken home by police after causing disruption in a queue at Asda.

The incident happened at the supermarket in South Shields at just before 6pm on Wednesday.

Officers who were patrolling at the nearby Metro station were alerted to the incident and a man was detained.

A spokesperson from Northumbria Police said: "Shortly before 6pm yesterday (Wednesday), officers were alerted to a man causing a disruption at the Asda on Coronation Street, South Shields.

"Officers took the man home to prevent a breach of the peace."

The incident came after a man was arrested when he verbally abused staff at Tesco in Kingston Park.

The 54-year-old was asked to leave the supermarket by the store's security on March 23 after hurling abuse at employees.

But the police were called when he refused and he was arrested before he was given a caution.
