Police remain at murder scene as investigation into man stabbed to death in Oldham continues

Detectives investigating the murder of a man stabbed to death in Oldham remain at the scene this morning.

Officers were called to a flat in Flora Street at 3am on Thursday.

The victim was taken to Royal Oldham Hospital, where he was pronounced dead shortly after.

On Friday morning officers remained at the scene.

A ground floor flat in the Claymoor block is still cordoned off and a number of children's bicycles can be seen in the front garden.

On Thursday residents on the estate, on the northern outskirts of the town centre, told of their shock.

One resident, who lives in the next block of flats said: "There were loads of police here last night, the whole car park down here was full of them - it woke me up."

Six people, three men aged 26, 38, and 66, and three women, aged 24, 31, and 49, have been arrested on suspicion of murder.

Speaking on Thursday Det Chief Insp Ben Cottam, of GMP's Major Incidents Team, said: "Our thoughts are very much with the man's family at this time.

"While this is believed to be an isolated incident, with no wider threat to the public, our team of detectives are working tirelessly to establish the exact circumstances of his death, and to find out who is responsible.

"I would like to be clear that our investigation remains very much ongoing and I would ask anyone with information to come forward.

"No matter how minor you may think it is, it could prove invaluable to our investigation."

Anyone with information is asked to call 0161 856 8483 quoting incident 236 of March 25 or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
