New surveillance video shows a suspected gunman who shot a woman Wednesday morning as she was walking in the Fulton River District.

Chicago police released video Thursday evening showing the suspect in a local bike repair shop in the 600 block of West Fulton about an hour before the shooting.

CPD spokesman Anthony Guglielmi tweeted that the man in the video “is now being classified as the prime suspect” in the shooting based on new evidence reviewed Friday morning.

Guglielmi declined to go into further detail about the evidence but said investigators have confirmed that the man in the bike shop video is the same person shown riding a mountain bike in surveillance photos from the scene of the shooting.

No arrests have been made in the shooting that targeted the 29-year-old woman as she walked near her workplace around noontime in the bustling West Loop.

She was on a sidewalk with two acquaintances when a male rode up on a bike and fired a single shot without stopping or saying a word, Chicago Police Supt. Eddie Johnson said in a news conference.

The woman was shot in the back and rushed to Northwestern Memorial Hospital, Johnson said. She underwent surgery and was expected to survive.

The attack happened about 11:50 a.m. in the 200 block of North Milwaukee Avenue, police said.

Shortly after the shooting, police released surveillance photos of the suspected gunman riding a mountain bike. The low definition images showed a man in dark clothing and light-colored shoes.

Johnson said the woman may have been targeted by the gunman. She was in an area that rarely sees gang conflict, he said.

Anyone with tips was asked to call 911.
