Dec. 03--Police on Wednesday released surveillance photos of two men believed responsible for a series of burglaries in the Near North Police District in recent weeks.
The burglars have been breaking into homes, and in at least one case, a restaurant, by breaking glass in a window or door, then going in and stealing items, according to police.
Most of the burglaries have mostly been reported in the late afternoon, according to an alert issued Wednesday by police.
Police did not release a description of the burglars, but in a series of surveillance photographs released with the alert, two young men are shown on what appears to be the back porch of a building, going up to a window and then, about six minutes later, coming out the window, carrying items. The photographs are timestamped Nov. 23, but no information about the particular burglary involved was released.
Both of the men, who appear to be young and white or Hispanic, appear to be wearing gray hooded sweatshirts and blue jeans. One, who is the more stocky of the two, appears to break the window is wearing a light-gray sweatshirt and has a mustache and close-cropped beard, as well as light-colored gym shoes with dark laces and dark baseball cap with what appears to be a small, light-colored Nike logo. The second man, who appears clean-shaven, has what appears to be a thinner build and face and is wearing a darker gray sweatshirt, more noticeably baggy jeans and dark gym shoes.
In the last frames of surveillance photographs, the first man is carrying a striped bag, possibly a soft-sided cooler, and the second man is wearing a backpack. Neither bag is visible in earlier frames.
