Police release new images of missing pensioner William Matthews as fears for his safety grow

Police have released new images of a missing pensioner last seen in Newcastle as concern grows for his welfare.

William Matthews, from Teesside, was reported missing on Thursday.

However, the 66-year-old had not been seen since he left a bus in Newcastle City Centre last weekend.

It's previously been reported that he boarded the X10 bus in Teesside before getting off on John Dobson Street and heading in the direction of Market Street.

Officers searching for William have now released CCTV showing the last sighting of him in the hope that a witness may be able to offer information about his whereabouts.

The sighting took place at 1.10pm on Saturday 31 July.

William was seen walking on Carliol Street, and turning right onto Market Street. He was walking in the direction of the central motorway.

Detective Sergeant Craig Huitson, of Northumbria Police said: “Thank you to everyone who has shared our appeal so far. We would ask that people look at the pictures we have released and get in touch if you think you have seen William.

“It has been over a week since William was last seen and we are growing increasingly concerned for his welfare.”

William is described as white, around 6ft 1in tall, of medium build and with short brown/grey balding hair.

Police have previously shared fears that he might be sleeping rough.

He was last seen wearing a navy blue padded jacket, blue jeans and blue trainers.
