Police release major update on two sisters found dead in Moortown home

Police have released a major update into the investigation of the bodies of two sisters found in their home in Leeds.

West Yorkshire Police received a call on Sunday from a concerned neighbour and when police arrived the bodies of the sisters, aged 78 and 81, were found at their home in Stonegate Road in Moortown.

The force have now confirmed that the deaths of the two women have been deemed as not suspicious following post-mortem examinations.

A spokesman for the force said: "The cause of their deaths is currently unascertained pending further tests, but they are not being treated as suspicious and reports are being submitted to the Coroner’s Office."

Residents who live in the quiet Leeds street have spoken of their heartbreak over the deaths of the sisters.

Officers were called to Stonegate Road at 12.28pm on Sunday after a neighbour raised the alarm.

The two women were sisters and one was a carer for the other, LeedsLive understands.

Neighbours said the tragedy was 'absolutely heartbreaking' and the discovery of their bodies had left the street 'shaken'.

Lucy Theakston, who lives around the corner from the property, said that she knew of both of the women.

She said: "What an absolutely heartbreaking story to read that was. To hear that they passed away together, I just did not understand it. It's just awful.

"Police have been here since Sunday, I know it has been really tough for people."

Another who lived nearby, Harry James, said: "I didn't know either of them personally, but I had seen them together. They're sisters, as far as I know.

"A couple of residents are seriously shook up about it, the circumstances are frightening.

"I hope that they are both at peace."
