Police Scotland release information showing areas in West Lothian with most sex offenders

New data shows the areas in West Lothian with the most sex offenders.

The latest statistics from Police Scotland on Registered Sex Offenders (RSOs) show there are over 100 living in the county.

Areas were listed by postcode and Livingston and Uphall Station have the highest concentration of sex offenders, with 46 registered as living in the area.

The EH48 postcode, covering Armadale, Bathgate, Blackridge, Torphichen, Westfield, Westrigg and Whiteside have the second highest tally, with 33 RSOs.

Next was EH47 with 22 offenders, including places like Blackburn, East Whitburn, Fauldhouse, Longridge, Seafield, Stoneyburn and Whitburn.

EH52, covering Broxburn, Dechmont, Uphall and Winchburgh have 18 sex offenders in their community.

EH49, Bridgend, Linlithgow, and Philipstoun, and EH53, East Caler, Mid Calder and Pumpherston, both have 10 sex offenders living among them.

The statistics show Addiewell, Polbeth and West Calder have seven RSOs in their community, whilst Kirknewton and Wilkieston have two registered offenders.

Police say that they put in place measures to minimise the likelihood of further sexual re-offending by Registered Sex Offenders (RSOs) and would seek to re-assure people that sexual re-offending rates remain extremely low.

Detective Superintendent Paul Cherrie, said: “Police Scotland, working with our Multi-Agency Public Protection Arrangements partners, manages registered sex offenders (RSOs) across all of Scotland’s communities.

“Every single offender is assessed and managed in line with the risk they present. Sexual re-offending rates of RSOs remain very low.

“While we can never completely eliminate risk, MAPPA partners use robust risk assessment processes, and a range of investigative tools including the latest technologies, to manage RSOs, mitigate risk and to protect the public.”
