Police release images of crash which shut M1 for hours

A picture has been released showing a severely damaged lorry cab following a crash on the M1.

The driver of the vehicle came away with "serious but not life threatening" injuries, after the incident yesterday (Friday, June 4).

Three lorries were involved in the collision and the M1 was closed between junction 28 (A38) to junction 29 (A617) for a number of hours.

It led to long tailbacks on the motorway with queues of up to six miles reported by Highways England.

Derbyshire Roads Policing Unit tweeted the image of the lorry on Saturday (June 5), with the caption: "M1 Juction 29 North Exit Slip.

"Serious but not life threatening injury to the driver of this lorry.

"Apologies to those caught up in three hour tailbacks, the nature of the crash and goods carried on vehicles involved meant the road was completely shut for a long time."
