Police release image after 89-year-old man left unable to walk after 'shocking' attack in south London

Detectives have released an image of a man they want to speak to after a pensioner was attacked in broad daylight in south London.

The 89-year-old victim was approached by a suspect in Frazier Street, Lambeth, shortly after 3pm on Wednesday, June 24.

He had abuse shouted at him before he was pushed to the ground.

He was taken to hospital and treated for a broken hip and is still unable to walk unaided, police said.

Scotland Yard has launched an investigation and officers from the Central South Command Unit are looking into the case.

Detective Constable Tristan Jones said: “This was a shocking attack on a vulnerable man that has left him unable to walk.

“It happened in a busy area in the middle of the afternoon and I’m confident somebody will be able to help us track down the man responsible.”

Anyone who recognises the man in the image – or has information about the attack should contact police on 101 quoting reference number 4919/24Jun.

Alternatively, tweet @MetCC or contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
