Police release e-fit after driver 'tried to abduct young girl' as she walked home from school

Police have released an e-fit image of a man following an attempted child abduction in Sale.

The terrifying incident happened after the pupil left an after-school club at The Firs Primary School in Sale yesterday afternoon (Thursday).

Police said the man approached the girl as she made her way home at around 4.30pm and tried to grab her.

The girl was able to break free and run away, the force said.

The suspect then fled from the scene in a large white van at the junction of Manor Avenue and Firs Road.

He drove off in the direction of Coppice Avenue.

The van has been described as 'new shape' with a sliding door and signage on the side.

No arrests have been made and the investigation is ongoing, GMP said.

There are increased patrols in the area as detectives carry out enquiries.

Detectives are now releasing an e-fit of a man they would like to speak to in connection with the incident.

In a letter to parents and carers, which has been seen by the M.E.N , The Firs Primary School's deputy headteacher Miss Taplin said the man 'put his hand over' the pupil's mouth before trying to abduct her.

She said a man and female stepped in to help.

The letter also urged parents to collect their children from school or darker evenings, or make sure that they walk home with a friend.

Detective Inspector Helen Bagnall of GMP's Trafford division: "This was an incredibly concerning and terrifying ordeal for the young girl and we have been working around the clock to establish the full circumstances of the incident to ensure we identify the man responsible.

"We're currently releasing this e-fit image in the hope that someone may recognise the man and can assist us with our enquiries. If you do recognise this male please get in touch with us as a matter of urgency.

"We are still looking to speak to the couple that intervened and helped the young girl following the incident and we urge you to get in touch with us as soon as possible.

"We're also appealing to anyone with any information about the incident - including those with dash-cam or CCTV footage of the white van - to contact us on 0161 856 7673 quoting incident number 2224 of 04/11/2021."
