Police have released footage of two people wanted over the theft of an electric wheelchair from an Adelaide home, with one of the suspects caught on CCTV parading up and down the street on the stolen device.
The wheelchair was stolen from the backyard of a property at Richmond in Adelaide's west and "has special features to specifically assist the victim's mobility", police said.
The CCTV shows the pair stealing the wheelchair on Tuesday morning and then the woman riding it up and down a street while the man walks nearby.
Western District detectives are seeking help from the public to identify the pair.
A time stamp on the video shows the wheelchair was stolen about 4:40am.
Earlier this week, Disability Advocacy and Complaints Service of South Australia chief executive Kendall Field said it was "not just the cost of a specialised chair like this that makes the theft deplorable".
"Most people don't realise wheelchairs, like the one stolen, are specially scripted to fit their owner and can take several months to replace.
"This act demonstrated blatant disregard for the person living with disability and a complete lack of care or awareness."
