Police release CCTV images in witness hunt after Croydon shooting leaves man in coma

Police want to speak to the person in the picture (Picture: Metropolitan Police)

Detectives are trying to trace a potential witness to a shooting in south London that left a man fighting for life in a coma.

New CCTV images show someone walking on Church Street in Croydon, moments before the victim, 37, was shot in his stomach and leg.

He remains in an induced coma following the attack, which took place at about 8.50pm on March 13.

Detective Constable Melanie Burridge, from the Met’s Specialist Crime Command, said: “We have been carrying out a range of enquiries and I am now appealing for the person in this image to contact us immediately.

“I would like to make it clear that you are not in any trouble, but we believe you may have vital information about an incident which resulted in a man being left in a critical condition in hospital.”

Pawel Smolinski, 30, of Cambridge Road in West Molesey, Surrey, and Jakub Smolinski, 24, of England Way, New Malden, have both been charged with attempted murder in connection with the shooting.

They are next due to appear in custody at Croydon Crown Court on April 12.

If you recognise the person in the CCTV, or have further information relating to the shooting, call 101 quoting CAD 7335/13Mar. To remain anonymous, contact Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
