Police release CCTV image of men they want to speak to after teenager stabbed in attack by machete-wielding gang in surgical face masks

Police have released a CCTV image of two men they want to speak to after a teenager was stabbed in an attack by a machete-wielding gang in surgical face masks.

The 18-year-old was left with arm injuries following the attack at a business park off Hamilton Road in Longsight on Thursday (June 18).

He was chased onto the business park by 'four offenders', who were wearing dark clothing, had their hoods up and had surgical face masks on.

One of them was carrying a machete.

Officers were called at around 5.35pm by the ambulance service to reports of a stabbing.

The victim was taken to hospital, but he has since been discharged.

An investigation is underway. No arrests have been made.

Police are keen to speak to anyone who recognises the men in the CCTV image.

They are also appealing for the member of the public who disturbed the offenders to come forward.

Det Insp Stephen Wiggins, of GMP’s City of Manchester district, said: “This was a violent assault which left the victim with multiple arm injuries and requiring hospital treatment. Hopefully, he will make a full recovery.

“Our enquiries are ongoing and we are particularly keen to trace the member of the public who disturbed the offenders.

"After reviewing CCTV, we believe that, around one hour earlier, the same four offenders interacted with a male and female near the factory-type buildings on Hamilton Road – we’re also keen to trace them.

"I stress that these individuals are not in any trouble but we believe they can assist us with our investigation.

“I would like to use this opportunity to say that anyone else with information should contact us without delay.”

Anyone with information is asked to call police on 0161 856 4409, quoting 2026 of June 18; or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
