Police have released CCTV footage of the close-range shooting of a bikie member in Melbourne's north-east, in the hope of finding the two gunmen responsible.
Police said the shooting victim, Rocco Curra, was sitting in his parked car on Burke Street in Bulleen on August 1 when he was ambushed shortly after 10:00pm.
Police believe the 37-year-old was attending a pre-arranged meeting but shortly after he arrived, two men pulled up in a stolen BMW in front of Mr Curra's car.
The footage shows the pair getting out of the car while a third person remains in the driver's seat.
The pair start shooting at Mr Curra while he remains in his vehicle, before they return to the BMW and flee the scene.
Mr Curra sustained critical injuries to the head and upper body.
Detective Acting Senior Sergeant Justin Mercovich said Mr Curra was incredibly lucky to have "miraculously survived" the shooting.
"We're extremely lucky that not only Rocca has survived but other members of the public weren't injured," he said.
"I think anyone who sees that footage … would think that any person sitting in that vehicle would likely be dead as a result of that."
The BMW was found torched in a street in nearby Templestowe a short time later.
Acting Senior Sergeant Mercovich said the car was stolen in March 2017 from Hawthorn and police did not know where it had been in the time between 2017 and the shooting.
Shooting victim refuses to cooperate with police
Mr Curra identifies as a member of the Mongols outlaw bikie club and police said he had not been assisting them with their investigation.
"It's very frustrating and unfortunately that's the reality when we have these shooting incidents where victims are uncooperative, it does hamper and delay investigations," Acting Senior Sergeant Mercovich said.
Detectives are still unsure of the motive behind the attack but are investigating whether other organised crime groups were involved.
"This is a very public shooting, there has been a number of incidents that have taken place in recent times, but I want to reassure the Victorian public that we're absolutely committed to disrupting the criminal activities of outlaw motorcycle gangs," Acting Senior Sergeant Mercovich said.
Police have also released an image of a man they believe was involved in the attack, described as Middle Eastern in appearance with short, dark hair and a full beard.
"I'm confident that this person has knowledge of what's taken place and they can assist us with our investigation... We want to identify those people, we want to recover the fire arms, we want to get these people off the street, so we can make Victoria a safer place."
Police are urging anyone who has information about the shooting to come forward or call crime stoppers on 1800 333 000.
