Police release CCTV after man drove car at two officers near McDonald's in Westerhope

An investigation has been launched after a car was driven at two police officers in Newcastle.

Shortly after 11.55pm on Tuesday, police received a report a car was being "driven erratically" near McDonald’s in Westerhope.

Officers attended the area and spotted the car parked in the drive-thru area.

However, when they approached the car and knocked on the window, the driver would not co-operate and made off from the scene.

As he pulled away from the drive-thru he drove over one officer’s foot and then has driven towards the second officer in an attempt to evade police.

Police confirmed that an investigation has been launched and enquiries have been carried out to locate the vehicle.

A spokesperson for Northumbria Police said: "Officers are now appealing to the public for information and have released the image of a man who was in the area at the time of the incident and could have information which can assist.

"The man, anyone who knows him, or anyone with information is asked to contact police immediately using the Tell us Something page on our website, quoting log NP-20210928-1126.

"Alternatively you can contact Crimestoppers anonymously by calling 0800 555 111."
