Police release CCTV after 25kg gritting bag thrown from Nottingham train station car park

Police have said it is lucky no one was seriously injured after a 25kg bag of gritting salt was thrown from the multi-storey car park at Nottingham railway station.

Passengers were walking directly underneath a glass canopy the bag landed on when it was hurled from level six at around 7.40pm on Sunday, April 28.

Officers investigating the incident have now released images of two people and are appealing for anyone who knows their identity to come forward.

PC Iain Bamber, of British Transport Police, said: “Whoever threw the bag did so without giving a second thought to the safety of anyone below.

“If the glass canopy had shattered, the consequences of this reckless act do not bear thinking about.

“It is lucky no one was seriously injured and because of the potentially life-threatening actions of those involved, we are taking this matter extremely seriously.

“Our enquiries so far have uncovered images of two youths, who we’d like to identify as part of our investigation, and I’d urge anyone who knows them to contact us.”
