Police recreate face of mystery man murdered in Forest Gate a decade ago

Detectives today released this haunting image of an unidentified murder victim whose skeletal remains were found wrapped in binbags and dumped in an abandoned factory.

The unknown man’s remains were discovered in a sleeping bag in the four-storey building in Forest Gate in 2016, about a decade after he is believed to have been beaten to death.

Carbon analysis of bones and teeth suggest he would have been between 30 and 45, and 5ft 4in to 5ft 8in tall.

A digital reconstruction of the man’s face, created by scientists at Dundee University, was released today following intricate analysis of evidence at the scene.

More than 100 sacks of industrial rubble were sieved and examined by a forensic anthropologist.

Blood matching the DNA of the victim was found in a room on the first floor, but no match was made on the national DNA database.

Inside the blue sleeping bag there was a packet of chewing tobacco which is only officially sold on the Indian sub-continent.

Detective Inspector Darren Jones said: “I would urge people reading this appeal, especially those living in the area where this man’s remains were found, to look closely at the reconstruction and think whether you may have seen him.”

Anyone with information should call 0208 355 0400 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
