Police recover suspected stolen van after pursuit through County Durham streets

A van has been recovered by police following a pursuit through County Durham streets.

Officers were alerted to the suspected stolen van on the A691, near Witton Gilbert, at around 9.10am on Thursday.

They began following it before the vehicle was eventually abandoned by the suspected thieves in a woods in Easington Lane.

Police have confirmed that the van was recovered by officers and enquiries are ongoing.

A spokesperson for Durham Constabulary said: “Officers were involved in a pursuit of a suspected stolen van.

“The incident happened at about 9.10am after officers were alerted to the vehicle on the A691 near Witton Gilbert.

“The occupants of the van eventually abandoned the vehicle in woods in Easington Lane before making off.

“It has since been recovered by officers. Enquiries are ongoing.”
