"Officers located this #stolen Mercedes A200 on false plates during an #OpCustodian patrol of arterial routes in/out of Manchester," GMP wrote in a tweet sent at 2.27am on Saturday.

It continued: "The Merc was stashed in the corner of a car park on the Salford side, near #Blackfriars. #Foundyou! #CantTeachIt"

The Mercedes A200 retails for more than £23,000, while the performance AMG version can cost upwards of £30,000.

Operation Custodian is a GMP policing initiative aimed at tackling crime and keeping people safe in the evening and throughout the night.
