Police recover body from water in search for missing Perthshire pensioner

A body has been found in the River Tay in connection to the search for a missing Perthshire pensioner.

Michael McGannon was reported missing after he was last spotted at his home in Iona Court, North Muirton at around 9pm on Saturday.

Specialist teams were deployed to the area shortly after reports of the 73-year-old’s disappearance.

Police Scotland have now confirmed that a body was recovered in the water near Newburgh at around midday on Monday.

The force is treating the death as ‘unexplained’ as enquiries are in their early stages.

A spokesperson for Police Scotland said: “Formal identification has yet to take place but the family go missing man Michael McGannon, from the North Muirton area of Perth, has been informed.

“A report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal.”
