Police react to not guilty verdicts at Yousef Makki murder trial

Specialist police officers are tonight supporting Yousef Makki's family after two teenage boys were found not guilty over his death.

The Manchester Grammar School student, 17, from Burnage , died in hospital in March this year after he was stabbed through the heart on Gorse Bank Road in Hale Barns .

Today two boys, aged 17, who have been on trial for almost a month facing several charges in connection with his death, were not found guilty on all counts.

As the foreman delivered the jury's verdicts Yousef's father Ghaleb repeatedly yelled "f*** you you b******" and shouted "Where is the justice for my son?".

He was later attended to by paramedics.

"I know people in the community may be shocked and upset, but I would urge people to be respectful of Yousef’s family and their feelings as they come to terms with today’s conclusion.

"Our main focus will be providing support to the family and we will be engaging with the Crown Prosecution Service over the coming days to consider the next steps to take with our investigation."

A 17-year-old boy, referred to as Boy One was cleared of murder and an alternative charge of manslaughter.

Prosecutors alleged that Boy One had stabbed his former friend in the chest in a 'fit of rage' during a row about a cannabis deal that went wrong.

Boy one was also found not guilty of conspiracy to rob, whilst a second boy, known as Boy Two, was found not guilty of conspiracy to rob and perverting the course of justice.

Boy One was hugged by his mother seated in the downstairs public gallery as he was released from the dock whilst Boy Two sat in the public gallery, seen to be texting on his mobile phone.

Both boys, who cannot be named for legal reasons, previously admitted possessing knives while Boy One also admitted perverting the course of justice after he lied to police at the scene on Gorse Bank Road.

Mr Justice Bryan, who preceded over the trial, ordered pre-sentence reports before passing sentence for those charges on July 25.
