Police raids across Glasgow recover 100,000 illegal cigarettes and tobacco

Almost 100,000 illicit cigarettes were recovered across Glasgow in a single day by police officers.

Trading Standards officers carried out an operation with Police Scotland targeting a number of businesses.

Using Boo, the consumer protection dog, the team set out to tackle the illicit supply of tobacco.

Approximately 100,000 cigarettes and quantities of tobacco were recovered, including over 8,000 in Govanhill.

A spokesperson for Police Scotland said: "Our Community Officers assisted Trading Standards in the seizures of over 8000 illicit cigarettes in Govanhill today.

"We couldn’t have done it without the help of Boo and Bobby."

We reported in August last year how 35,000 illegal cigarettes were recovered in the Govanhill area with 8.1kg of tobacco also discovered.
