Police raid uncovers cannabis farm opposite primary school

Police uncovered a cannabis factory at a house opposite a Cardiff primary school.

More than 130 plants were uncovered at a house in Marlborough Road, Penylan, after a raid on Monday afternoon.

Officers found the plants in three first-floor bedrooms at the property, which is opposite Marlborough Road Primary School.

Children were not at school at the time of the raid, which happened around 3pm, because it was an inset day.

A spokeswoman for South Wales Police said that a 31-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of being concerned in the cultivation of cannabis and he remains in police custody.

A witness to the raid said: "It's not something you expect to see on leafy, residential street. ... police forcing their way into an unassuming address opposite a primary school.

"I have no idea who lived there, but recognised the unmistakable scent of cannabis in the street a number of times when picking my children up from school, so I'm not surprised.

"It is reassuring to see the police taking such positive action against crime in the area."
