
PATHAM THANI: Police seized 413 wireless access points and other devices during raids on two shops in Lam Luk Ka district following an investigation that they had illegally sold internet equipment used in sending internet signal for illegal online football gambling in a neighbouring country.
A combined team of police from several units, led by Pol Maj Gen Surachate Hakparn, deputy commissioner of the Tourist Police Bureau, raided Wifi Move shop in Rangsit-Pathum Thani area and seized 309 access points and other signal equipment.
The police team later raided Seek Engineering Group in Lam Luk Ka and confiscated another 104 devices.
The seized items were sent to Kukot police station for examination.
Pol Maj Gen Surachate said the raids came after police and soldiers raided 21 online gambling venues in Mae Sai district of Chiang Rai. They found 184 access points and 36 signal towers illegally installed for online football gambling in Mae Sai border area and a neighbouring country, where football gambling websites were opened to receive bets online.
The investigation found that those online gambling sites had bought the equipment from the two shops in Pathum Thani.
