A man has been arrested in Newcastle as part of an investigation into an alleged attempted murder and robbery in Sydney earlier this year.

Police detained the man, 28, after they raided a home at Maryland Drive, Maryland, on Tuesday morning, bringing the armoured 'bear cat' police vehicle to execute the search warrant.

NSW Police said in a statement on Tuesday afternoon the man had been taken to Newcastle Police Station where it was expected he would be charged.

Investigators and officers from the Tactical Operations Unit swooped on the home in the Newcastle suburb about 7am.

They also executed two other search warrants in Newcastle - one at a home in Mayfield where no-one was arrested and another at second location at Maryland.

Officers arrested a 27-year-old woman for an outstanding warrant for alleged traffic offences during the second Maryland raid.

She has been granted bail and will face court in June.

Police confirmed the operations related to an investigation into a shooting near Fairfield in February.

Detectives from Strike Force Bellvue, which was set-up to investigate the incident, arrested and charged a man and woman in the Hunter in relation to the alleged shooting last month.

Police say emergency crews were called to a granny flat on Huntingdale Avenue at Lansvale about 3.10am on February 13 after reports a man had been shot.

Paramedics treated a 38-year-old man for a gunshot wound to the stomach at the scene.

He remains in a serious but stable condition in Liverpool Hospital.

"Police were told two men - with their faces covered and armed with a rifle - entered the granny flat and shot the man before stealing personal items including jewellery, cash and a designer handbag," a NSW Police statement said.

Investigators seized a vehicle from Tighes Hill and arrested a man, 42, and woman, 28, after executing a search warrant at a Mayfield property last month.

They have been charged with shoot at with intent to murder, specially aggravated break and enter with intent, aggravated robbery with wounding, aggravated robbery in company and destroy or damage property and remain before the courts.

Police also released details on Tuesday of another man they believe can help with their investigation into the shooting.

He is described as being of Caucasian appearance, aged in his mid-20s, about 175cm tall, of medium build with brown hair and brown eyes.
