Police raid Cessnock home: cannabis, stolen bank cards, power tools seized

A MAN has been charged with a string of stealing, drug and fraud offences around the Hunter Region.

Port Stephens police have been investigating the theft of property - including power tools, electronics, identification cards and bank cards - from multiple motor vehicles in the areas of Kurri Kurri, Caves Beach, East Maitland and Chisholm, between August 25 and October 21.

Investigators executed a search warrant at a home on Allandale Road, Cessnock, about 11.30am Friday.

Police allegedly located and seized a number of items suspected to be stolen, including a helmet, assorted bank cards, power tools, a physio bag, 22 cannabis plants and a firework.

A 26-year-old man was arrested at the home and taken to Cessnock police station, where he was charged with four counts of larceny, 14 counts of dishonestly obtain property by deception, four counts of drive motor vehicle during disqualification period, cultivate prohibited plant, and goods in personal custody suspected being stolen.

Police will allege in court that a number of the stolen bank cards were used in fraudulent transactions.

He was refused bail and was due to appear in Newcastle Local Court on Saturday. Inquiries continue.
