POLICE have rescued a man and his dog who became stuck in a "boggy hole" near King Edward Park.
A NSW Police Rescue unit tore through town with lights and sirens about 11.15am on Wednesday headed towards Shortland Esplanade and York Drive, Newcastle.
The man and his dog became stuck some four metres down from the roadway near the popular coastal area frequented by walkers and were unable to get back up.
Police and firefighters were at the scene, but after swiftly rescuing the man and dog, had started packing up about midday.
It is understood neither the man, nor the dog, suffered any injuries and the pair were able to walk home unscathed.
More to come.
