Police race to ongoing incident in Inverness as residents told to stay away

Emergency crews raced to Inverness amid an ongoing incident in the city centre.

Officers descended on Queensgate in the early hours of Wednesday morning.

The road was closed as a result.

Police asked locals to avoid the area to allow those on the scene to 'carry out their roles'.

The nature of the incident is yet to be confirmed.

It is not known if anyone has been injured.

Highlands and Islands Police Division released a statement at around 5am.

It read: "Police Scotland are dealing with an ongoing incident on Queensgate, Inverness, which in turn has led to the road being closed.

"It is requested members of the public avoid this area for the meantime to allow the Police and other emergency services to carry out their roles."
